Green Forest to celebrate Patriot's Day on June 26

Tuesday, June 22, 2010

GREEN FOREST -- Patriots' Day, formerly known as Appreciation Day, will bring fireworks and fun for all on Saturday, June 26, from 5 p.m. until dark.

This festival the week before the Fourth of July has become a tradition here, but this year it carries a new name.

"Because it is held the weekend before Independence Day, I believe it is appropriate that we honor our national holiday by renaming the day Patriots' Day," said Mayor Charlie Reece.

"This is a celebration of our nation's heritage, presented by the City of Green Forest," he added.

Many of the events will be the same as before, including:

* Lots of games and activities, including water slides, a blow-up bounce tent, slip & slide, three-on-three basketball, three-legged races, lawnmower races, and many more activities.

* Loree Blackburn is arranging live music.

* Free hot dogs, soft drinks and watermelon will be given away.

* Some vendors have been invited, with food and other items.

* Face-painting

* Fireworks at dusk

"This is the season of patriots, and Green Forest and Carroll County have their share of American heroes," Reece said, as he invited the public to come celebrate in Green Forest.
