Charles (Chic) Severe
CHARLES (CHIC) SEVERE, 92, most recently of Holiday Island, died Dec. 14, 2005, while in the Eureka Springs Hospital.
He was born March 21, 1913, in Elmhurst, Pa. He was a carpenter and building for almost 60 years in the northwestern part of New Jersey. He was the last of his ten brothers and sisters.
He enjoyed gardening when he was not busy building. Although a man of limited means, he made it possible for the runway to be built at Silver Wings Field, the airport at the Aviation Cadet Museum in Eureka Springs. The airport name will be changed to: Silver Wings Field, Chic Severe memorial runway. He left several houses that he built, but the runway will be his greatest legacy.
He is survived by his son, Errol D. Severe, of Eureka Springs; Errol's mother, Bette Severe, of Berryville; his daughter-in-law, Beth Severe; his grandson, Kevin Severe and his wife Lisa of Alma; his granddaughter, Kelly Cooper of Willis, Texas; and great-grandchildren Travis Severe, Emily Severe, Michaela Cooper and Summer Cooper.
The funeral service was held at the Eureka Springs cemetery on Thursday, Dec. 22, 2005. The Reverend Dick Ludig officiated.
