Football practices to begin for the 2002 campaign

That grunting, groaning and pounding sound you will hear next week isn't coming from a normal construction project. It will be coming from football practice fields all across the state, as junior high and high school football teams take to the fields to prepare for the 2002 football season.

Carroll County coaches are working in the field houses and locker rooms this week, preparing everything for the athletes' arrivals next week.

Here's the schedules for the Tigers and Bobcats, as released by their athletics directors, Bill Gotto and Carl Owens.


Aug. 2- Berryville head football coach Carl Owens has announced the first team meeting for the Bobcats will begin on Friday, Aug. 2, with two-a-day practices to follow.

Bobcat senior high athletes are to report to the BHS gym at 8:30 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 2, for a team meeting. Equipment, physicals, insurance and insurance waivers, and the practice schedule will be addressed at that time.

Aug. 5- The senior high's first practice will begin on Monday, Aug. 5, at 8 a.m., with their second practice at 6 p.m. that evening.

The Junior Bobcats will practice at 10:30 that morning.

Aug. 15- Team Photos- Owens reported that Thursday, Aug. 15, was set as Picture Day for team photos, with junior high pictures set for 9 a.m., and the senior high photos to follow.

Aug. 29- Jamboree- The Bobcats will host a Jamboree at Bobcat Stadium which will include Pea Ridge and Yellville. The Junior Bobcats will scrimmage Pea Ridge at 6 p.m., then the senior high teams will take over.

Sept. 5- The Junior Bobcats will play Yellville this Thursday to start their season.

Sept. 6- The Bobcats' first game of the 2002 season will be Friday, at home against the Cassville Wildcats. Game time is 7:30 p.m.


Aug. 6- Green Forest head football Coach Bill Gotto said the first practice for senior high would be at 10 a.m., with the practice schedule announced each day.

Aug. 8- The eighth- and ninth-grade players will practice at 7 a.m. for the junior high season.

Aug. 15- The seventh-grade will practice at 8 a.m.

Aug. 27- Team Photos- Coach Gotto said photos for seventh, junior high, and senior high would be taken on this morning.

Jamboree- Also, the Tigers will host Elkins for a Jamboree that evening, with the junior high team kicking off the action at 6 p.m., and the senior high teams playing at 7 p.m.

Sept. 5- The Junior Tigers kick off their junior high season with a game at Greenland.

Sept. 6- The Tigers begin the 2002 campaign at home against the Pea Ridge Black Hawks. Game time is 7:30 p.m.
