Eric Perez made the difficult decision earlier this year to leave his job as head coach of the Green Forest soccer team for an assistant coaching position in Siloam Springs. It’s a step up to a larger classification for Perez, a Green Forest native who was a player on the Tigers’ 2014 Class 4A state championship team and then coached his alma mater to a Class 3A state title in his first year as head coach in 2021.

Berryville’s Weston Teague made quite an impression at the Arkansas High School Coaches Association All-Star game on Saturday, June 25, in Conway. Teague scored four points, grabbed one rebound and blocked two shots in 12 minutes of action for the West All-Stars, who lost to the East by a score of 87-75.

Grandma’s House hosted the Ice Cream Social 5K & Fun Run on Saturday, June 11, in Berryville and raised more than $1,775 for the child abuse victims it serves. A group of 50 runners turned out bright and early to run 3.1 miles through the streets of Berryville and all were rewarded with a scoop of free ice cream at the end.

Surrounded by friends, family, coaches and teammates, three Green Forest High School athletes signed letters of intent Wednesday to continue their careers at the college level next season. Carroll County schools recently held their annual athletic banquets to honor their students’ achievements during the 2021-22 school year. Green Forest coach Eric Perez said before the Class 3A boys state soccer tournament began that if the Tigers faced Harding Academy in the semifinals, the winner would go on to claim the state championship.

Odds are good that Harding Academy’s girls soccer team will be competing in Class 4A next season. They won’t be missed in Green Forest.

The 2022 soccer season has been about one thing for the Green Forest Tigers: getting back to the Class 3A state tournament and defending the state championship they won a year ago. On Thursday, the quest begins in earnest.

The Green Forest Lady Tigers have had a little bit of extra motivation for the 2022 soccer season. The Lady Tigers have bounced back with an outstanding season after a 6-2 loss to Harding Academy in the championship game of last year’s Class 3A state tournament.
