Mary Ellen Chaney

Mary Ellen (Moore) Chaney, age 74, of Berryville, Arkansas passed away Sunday, June 19, 2022, at her home surrounded by loved ones. She was born July 13, 1947, at Harrison, Arkansas, daughter of Richard and Johnnie Moore.

Mary graduated from Alpena High School in 1965. On June 11, 1966, she married Don Chaney. Mary was a long-time member of Berryville Assembly of God Church where she and Don attended faithfully while dating and throughout their marriage. Don and Mary haven’t spent too much time apart from each other during their 56 years of marriage until recently when her health required it. Mary would say “Love you” and Don would reply “Love you…love you bunches” when ending phone calls or leaving.

Mary worked for over 30 years as a beautician at her salon, Mary’s Hair Fashion, which she operated out of her home. Her daughter, Christi, worked in the salon with her for many years. After retirement Mary assisted Jimmy and Kathy at Smith Family Funeral Home during visitations and services.

In her free time Mary enjoyed playing board games, decorating, traveling, going out to eat, and spoiling her four grandchildren. Granny Mary, as known by her grandkids, was interested in whatever activity her grandkids were involved in and enjoyed spending time with all her family. Christmas was Mary’s favorite holiday, and her home was completely decorated for the season. Mary often cooked a meal when the kids would stop by her house to visit. She had a large collection of cookbooks that she used to try out new recipes in addition to the family favorites.

Mary was a straight talker. You never had to wonder what she thought about something because if she thought it, she would usually say it. Mary’s quick wit and sense of humor ensured that everyone around her was laughing. She made it almost impossible to tell her no and if you did, she would try to talk you out of it. Her dad used to call her “Go Go Mary” because if the car was started, she was ready to go, and it didn’t even matter where they were going.

Over the years, Don and Mary took many road trips to see sites or try out new restaurants and sometimes just to get out of the house. Mary had a big heart and helped provide for others who might have gone without when she knew of someone in need.

She is survived by husband, Don of Berryville; son, Brad Chaney and wife Danette of Urbanette; son-in-law, Dale Seitz of Berryville; grandchildren, Hunter Seitz of Dry Fork, Chaney Seitz of Berryville, Cole and Will Chaney of Urbanette; sister, Kathy Smith and husband Jim of Berryville; nephews, Steve Smith and wife Regina of Hot Springs, Rick Smith and wife Tiffany of Green Forest; niece, Sheila Robnett and husband Casey of Bella Vista; as well as numerous other close family and friends.

She is preceded in death by her daughter, Christi (Chaney) Seitz; parents, Richard and Johnnie Moore; mother and father-in-law, Fred and Alma Chaney; and a number of family members dear to her heart.

During one of her last phone conversations, Mary was asked how they could pray for her. Mary’s response was “Pray that all my loved ones meet me in heaven.” Mary was loved by many and will be greatly missed.

Celebration of Life will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday, June 23, 2022, at Church On The Hill, Berryville, Arkansas. Pastor Keith Butler will officiate with interment following at Rule Cemetery. Visitation will be 9:00 a.m. until service begins.
