Green Forest girls building for future
The Green Forest Lady Tigers won’t have a deep bench this season, and first-year coach Ben West said his team might take a few lumps — but it’s all part of building for the future.
Green Forest has eight players on its 2021-22 roster, and not a single senior among them. The Lady Tigers have six juniors and two sophomores who should gain valuable experience this season. Waiting in the wings is a talented group of freshmen who should fill out the Green Forest roster next season.
Still, West says the Lady Tigers have the work ethic to turn some heads this season.
“We understand that we may take some lumps this year, but they’re working really hard, and I think they may surprise some people,” West said.
Junior Leah Evans will start at point guard, with Virginia Gonzalez and Mercedes Rivera at the other guard spots. The frontcourt will be manned by junior twins Allie and Lindsey Snow.
The Lady Tigers opened the season on their home court Monday night, taking on Omaha in the first round of the Queens of the Court tournament at the Grim Gym. The winner of Monday night’s game will play Bergman at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, while the loser will play at 4 p.m. Thursday against the loser of Monday night’s game between Lead Hill and Lincoln.
