Berryville realtor Christy Whiteley was recently named the 2020 Realtor of the Year by the Eureka Springs Carroll County Board of Realtors.

Whiteley, who works with her husband, Ronnie Whiteley, at Montgomery Whiteley Realty in Berryville, has worked in real estate for the past 15 years and serves on the Carroll County board, holding several positions, including past president.

“It’s satisfying to help others find their their place to call home,” Whiteley said. “I enjoy the residential real estate part. That’s my favorite of everything. My biggest thing is just helping people, help them with their move if they need to sell and those looking to buy. I enjoy that.”

While some might find working with a spouse difficult or strange, Whiteley said she and her husband have found a good balance. Of course, they’ve been working together — both as parents and business partners — for some time.

“I honestly wouldn’t have it any other way,” said Whiteley, a lifelong Berryville native. “We work as a good team, helping each other where one needs it. We’ve always worked together basically. For probably 25 years, we’ve worked side by side with businesses.”

Before becoming a realtor, Whiteley said she primarily worked with early education programs before becoming a mother.

“I worked with Head Start up until our daughter was born and then stayed home and just did kind of odd jobs and stuff,” Whiteley said. “That’s kind of what pushed me to do real estate because I stayed with her till she started kindergarten and wanted something flexible, to be able to still do mom things.”

Now that her daughter has grown up and left home — “We’re empty nesters,” Whiteley said — it’s time to find new ways to occupy her time.

“When your hobby has been your daughter for 23 years, it’s kind of hard to find something else,” Whiteley said.

Last year, she helped organize a golf tournament to raise money for Special Olympics. She also sits on the board of directors of the Learning Center of Northwest Arkansas and is active in her church, Towering Oaks Church in Berryville, where she helps with the youth program.

“That’s all that I’m doing right now,” Whiteley said. “We’re trying to find new hobbies.”

Whiteley said she and her husband enjoy exploring on their UTV and have started taking camping trips.

“Last fall, we bought a toy hauler, so we’ve been doing some camping,” Whiteley said. “That’s kind of our our new hobby that we enjoy doing together.”
