Bobcats hope break doesn’t slow their roll
If there’s one mitigating factor in the Berryville Bobcats’ long layoff from live game action, it’s the fact that the Bobcats have already clinched a spot in the upcoming 4A-North Regional Tournament.
But Berryville coach Brent Compton said he has some concerns about the Bobcats’ time away from the court. Berryville last played on Friday, Feb. 5, and it’s not clear if or when the 4A-1 district tournament will be played.
As of Monday, Berryville was scheduled to play a semifinal game Friday night against the winner of a quarterfinal game between Shiloh Christian and Prairie Grove.
But with more winter weather in the forecast, Compton said he’s not sure that will happen.
“The one thing that concerns me is, how long are we going to be before we play another game?” Compton said Monday morning. “We didn’t play last Tuesday, our Friday game was canceled. It could be two weeks or more before we play a game. And right now we can’t even get in to practice. So it’s a tough situation.”
At 19-3, Berryville has won six consecutive games and eight of its past nine.
“We could use a little bit of rest,” Compton said. “I want to use this as a positive, but you don’t want too long because you get to the point where you’re out of shape and there’s a chance for injuries. We were playing pretty solid and shooting the ball well, so we don’t want to be away too long.”
