“Buck” Vernon Herbert Matthews, age 91, passed away in his home on December 30, 2020. Buck was born the youngest of 15 children on July 14, 1929 in Eureka Springs, AR to James Calvin "Jaybird" Matthews and Caledona “Dony” Mae Gibson.

Buck was joined in marriage with Lunan Foreman on October 4, 1952. After their union they moved to Lancaster, California and started their family, and raised 5 children together. When they moved from California back to Arkansas, Buck worked in the trucking industry as a truck driver for Tyson Foods for nearly 30 years. He became known by his fellow drivers and friends as “Buckwheat” or “Daddy Buck”. They were blessed with 49 years of marriage until Lunan’s death on June 23, 2001. Two years after losing Lunan, he was united in marriage with Marsha Dale Ferguson, they spent their life together in Elkins, AR. After Marsha’s death Buck moved back to Berryville.

Buck enjoyed going to Ozark Cafe sipping coffee and what he called “shoot the bull”, visiting the Senior Center, and visiting with friends and neighbors of Hertiage Park Community. He loved his dog Missy. He enjoyed gardening and cooking dinner for his family. He loved to talk about cars, to anyone who would listen. He was always willing to trade, when he went to town we weren’t surprised when he came home in a new truck. If you knew Buck you loved him. He always had a smile on his face even in his final days. He never met a stranger. Buck attended Grandview Baptist Church.

Buck was preceded in death by his parents, his siblings, his wife Lunan Foreman Matthews, daughter and son in law Janet Lee Poor and Tony Poor and wife Marsha Dale Matthews.

He is survived by his 2 sons Tommy Matthews of Berryville and Bruce Matthews and Tracy Matthews of Berryville and 2 daughters Judy Biggerstaff and husband Wendell Berryville and Leann Bailey and husband Wayne of Harrison, 8 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
