Saturday, Dec.12, was a day full of Christmas cheer for many of Carroll County’s youngest residents. Forty children from Eureka Springs, Berryville and Green Forest arrived at the Berryville Walmart to be greeted by a group of local police officers. Each child was paired with an officer and whisked away to pick out $100 in Christmas gifts.

Twenty-two officers from the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office, Berryville Police Department, Eureka Springs Police Department, Green Forest Police Department and the Arkansas State Police participated in the annual Shop With A Cop event hosted by The Merlin Foundation.

Later that day, a separate group of children arrived at the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office to be greeted by none other than Santa Claus himself. After enjoying hot chocolate and Christmas cookies galore, parents and kids alike were full of holiday cheer and then were wonderfully surprised when a group of motorcyclists from the Pig Trail Harley Davidson crew in Eureka Springs arrived with a trailer full of toys! Each child was gifted a present from Santa and sent home with even more gifts picked out by their parents and carefully hidden away for Christmas morning. Merlin Foundation board members Michelle Steiner, Berryville Police Chief Robert Bartos, Kevin Estes, Anita Engert and community development coordinator Kaleigh Evans attended each of the events.
