The Berryville Lady Bobcats came up just one set short of the state tournament.

Playing on their home court, the Lady Bobcats lost to Farmington in five sets in the first round of the 4A Northwest district tournament on Oct. 19.

Berryville won two of the first three sets and held a lead for most of the fourth set before Farmington rallied to force a fifth set. The Lady Cardinals then won the deciding set 15-8 to end Berryville’s season.

Coach Kristin Whetham said the Lady Bobcats didn’t play as well as they had for much of the season.

“I think the girls put too much pressure on themselves,” Whetham said. “It wasn’t the team that I had seen for most of the year.”

Although the loss ended the Lady Bobcats’ season short of their ultimate goal, Whetham said she was proud of their effort all season.

“Like I told the girls, they played to the best of their ability 99 percent of the time,” Whetham said. “This year was probably one of my favorite groups, from seventh grade all the way up. The girls worked really well together.”

The Lady Bobcats will have to replace seven senior starters from this year’s team, but the future of Berryville volleyball looks bright.
