Archie Clarence Swofford of Berryville, Arkansas, was born November 27, 1927 in the Salem Community to Clarence Melvin and Alta Sara (Plumlee) Swofford. Archie passed away Tuesday, November 3, 2020 in Berryville, Arkansas at the age of 92.
He was of the Baptist faith. Archie loved spending time with his wife singing and playing music. He was a retired schoolteacher in the Carroll County area. Archie was also a member of the Cattlemen’s Association and the Harrison Fiddlers Convention. After retiring from school, he was a Farmer Insurance Agent for many years and spent twenty years as President of the Board.
Archie married Mary Ellen Holland on November 2, 1949 who precedes him in death. He is also survived by his son Stephen Swofford of Berryville, Arkansas; daughter Marjorie White and husband Gary of Berryville, Arkansas; daughter LaVon Nance and husband Reyburn of Green Forest, Arkansas; grandchildren Stephanie Garvin and husband David of Berryville, Arkansas, Kellie Muller and husband Matt of Altus, Oklahoma, Janetta Smith and husband David of Berryville, Arkansas, Reyburn Nance and wife Tia of Green Forest, Arkansas, and Bryan Nance of De Moines, Iowa; eleven great grandchildren; four great great grandchildren; many friends and neighbors.
He is preceded in death by his wife Mary Ellen Swofford; parents Clarence and Alta Swofford; grandson Michael Nance; sisters Ruby Keeland, Blanche Summers, Ruth Freeman, Vada Austin, and Evelene Loftin.
A Graveside Service was held 10:00 a.m., Monday, November 9, 2020 at the Hale Cemetery with Pastor Jerry Spurlock and Brother Larry Montgomery officiating. Arrangements under the direction of Nelson Funeral Service. Online condolences may be sent to the family at nelsonfuneral.com.
