Jr. Bobcats rally to win
By Scott Loftis
The Berryville Junior Bobcats finally played their first football game of 2020 last Thursday, and they made sure it was worth the wait.
Quarterback Chris Hipps ran for a pair of touchdowns and running back Nick Utt added a TD run as the Junior Bobcats opened their season with a 22-20 come-from-behind victory at Greenland.
“To get on the field for the first time, I couldn’t really ask for much better,” said first-year Berryville coach Payton Covington. “It was a good feeling. After four months of practice, they were ready to go.”
Greenland led 20-14 at halftime but didn’t score in the second half.
“Overall, I thought we were really, really good on defense,” Covington said. “They really couldn’t drive it on us. They scored on a couple of big plays in the first half.”
Defensively, Covington said Lucas Pierce, Alex Esparza and Zane Gentry played well, as did David Moreno on both sides of the ball and Austin Orr at running back.
Berryville will host Shiloh Christian on Thursday.
