Neva Margarette Welch of Lampe, Missouri, was born January 26, 1932, in Stone County, Missouri, to Sherman Beecher and Arama Margaret (Meadows) Bonham. Neva passed away September 17, 2020, at her home near Lampe at the age of 88.
Neva attended the Church of Christ in Berryville, Arkansas. She earned her bachelor’s degree in education from Missouri State University and her Master’s from Drury University. She was a dedicated teacher who spent 46 years in the classroom. She started her career in a one-room schoolhouse at the age of 16. She taught at Brock, Owens, Abesville, and Keystone before smaller community schools were consolidated into larger districts after the construction of Table Rock Lake. She spent the last 38 years of her career teaching at Reeds Spring Elementary, mostly in 1st grade. She was a charter member of the Alpha Psi chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma at the School of the Ozarks. After retirement, she enjoyed tutoring, attending church, travel, and spending time with her family—especially her grandchildren—and friends. She was a very loving mother and grandmother.
Neva is survived by her daughter Lanna Fletcher and husband Jason of Lampe, Missouri; grandson Taran Fletcher of Lampe, Missouri; granddaughter Rhian Fletcher of Lampe, Missouri; stepchildren Becky Newberry and husband Bill of Granby, Colorado, Ed Welch and wife Tracy of Fraser, Colorado, and Chris Welch of Granby, Colorado; step-grandchildren Melissa, Samantha, Katherine, Amanda, Madison, and Nicholas; 4 step-great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, and many other relatives and friends.
She is preceded in death by her husbands Lyman Arnold Welch and Thoral David Welch, her parents Sherman and Arama Bonham, and step-grandson Sawyer.
Graveside service will be Tuesday, September 29, 2020, at 10:00 a.m. at the McCullough Cemetery near Shell Knob with Eric Hicks officiating. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Monday, September 28 at the Charles M. Nelson Memorial Chapel in Berryville, Arkansas. Please follow social distancing and mask mandates and bring a chair to the graveside services, if needed.
