Berryville coach Kristin Whetham says this year’s Lady Bobcats’ volleyball team isn’t young, per se, but doesn’t have much experience playing together at the high school level.

Still, there’s plenty of potential there, especially among the senior class.

“When this group were ninth-graders, they went undefeated and won a conference championship,” Whetham said.

Berryville returns three starters — seniors Abby Thurman and Lauren Compton and junior Faith Kelley.

Senior Lilli Compton has excelled in preseason practice, while classmate Ella McMellon will play the middle and provide some length for the Lady Bobcats. Berryville has had good size over the last few seasons, but this year’s team may have a different look.

“We’re small but definitely scrappy,” Whetham said. “There’s a lot of potential there.”

The Lady Bobcats hosted Rogers in a benefit game last Thursday. They’ll open the regular season Tuesday, traveling to Pea Ridge.
