Green Forest senior suffers serious injuries in accident
By Scott Loftis
A Green Forest High School senior was seriously injured in a head-on traffic accident Tuesday, June 16, on U.S. Highway 62 east of town. A GoFundMe account has been set up to raise money for his medical expenses.
Devon Wethern, 17, was airlifted to a Springfield, Mo., hospital after the accident and underwent a six-and-a-half-hour surgery in an effort to save his right leg. Later, Wethern was transferred to Arkansas Children’s Hospital in Little Rock, where he remained on Monday.
Details of the accident haven’t been made public. The Carroll County Sheriff’s Office referred questions about the accident to the Arkansas State Police. ASP public information officer Bill Sadler did not respond to a request for information.
Wethern is a member of the Green Forest High School Class of 2020, which is scheduled to have its graduation ceremonies on July 25 at Tiger Stadium.
In addition to the GoFundMe account, donations for Wethern are being accepted at Cornerstone Bank and at Hatman’s One-Stop in Green Forest, where he worked as an overnight clerk.
