Complete 2020 census, mayor urges

Mayor Tim McKinney reminded Berryville residents that they must complete the 2020 census at the city council meeting Tuesday, March 17.
“I want to remind everybody that it’s very important to our city and our citizens to be counted,” McKinney said.
Administrative assistant Jay Lee added that the census questionnaire can be completed online or over the phone this year.
“We’re all aware of the coronavirus, and have closed our Community Center, and tomorrow we’re going to be closing our water office to walk-in traffic,” McKinney said. “I want to encourage people to check on your neighbors. We will get through this; don’t panic.”
In other business, the council approved an ordinance that regulates the use of portable storage freight containers in residential areas.
The ordinance allows citizens to use the containers for 30 days while moving after obtaining a permit from the City Inspector’s office. Containers used for construction on a residential project site are exempt from the restriction.
The council’s next regular meeting is scheduled for 6 p.m. Tuesday, April 7.
