GF bats come alive in win over Marshall

The Green Forest Tigers bounced back strong from a season-opening loss.

Reiley Gordon struck out seven batters and Green Forest collected 15 hits in a 17-1 victory Thursday at Marshall.

The top two hitters in Green Forest’s lineup — sophomores Barrett Phillips and Isaac DeMeyer — went a combined 7-for-7 with seven runs scored and four RBI.

Phillips was 3-for-3, scoring four runs and driving in two. DeMeyer went 4-for-4 with three runs scored and two RBI.

Seniors Jacob McMahan, Hayden Alvard and Micah Hutchison added two hits apiece. McMahan and Alvard each drove in two runs, with McMahan and Hutchison scoring two runs apiece.

Sophomore Dalton Randolph scored three runs for the Tigers (1-1), who dropped their season opener 25-0 at Pea Ridge on Tuesday, March 3.

Green Forest is scheduled to play a doubleheader at Greenland on Tuesday before competing in the Carroll County Tournament on Friday and Saturday.
