Win at Harrison has Berryville soccer 2-0
By Scott Loftis
Berryville soccer coach Jesse Frost said before Monday’s season opener against Eureka Springs that he expects big things from the Bobcats.
So far, those expectations seem reasonable.
Berryville beat Eureka Springs 9-0 Monday, then won 3-0 Tuesday at Harrison.
Senior Manny Tellez scored four goals in the win over Eureka Springs, with freshman David Tapia adding two goals. Seniors Armando Mojica, Kolby Harp and Robert Quiquivix each added goals for the Bobcats. Quiquivix is Berryville’s starting goalkeeper.
Freshmen accounted for two of the Bobcats’ goals on Tuesday against Harrison, which finished as the Class 4A state runner-up last season. Tapia and classmate Jesus Monroy each had first-half goals for Berryville, while Mojica scored in the second half.
“We’re excited,” Frost said. “The hard work has paid off. We’re going to keep working hard.”
Berryville will host Carroll County rival Green Forest, which is expected to be a state title contender in Class 3A after finishing second last season, on Monday. The Bobcats and Tigers played twice last season, with both games ending in ties.
