Morrilton rally eliminates Bobcats
The Morrilton Devil Dogs dominated the second half and beat the Berryville Bobcats 67-48 Thursday night in the first round of the 4A North Regional Tournament at Bobcat Arena.
The victory assured Morrilton a spot in next week’s Class 4A State Tournament at Farmington. Berryville’s season came to an end with the loss.
Berryville led 31-26 at halftime, but the Devil Dogs took control in the third quarter. Morrilton used its pressure defense to create turnovers and easy scoring opportunities as it outscored Berryville 18-3 in the third quarter to take a 44-34 lead.
Morrilton finished the quarter on a 14-2 run, scoring eight points over the final 1:14. The Devil Dogs then scored the first five points of the fourth quarter to extend their lead to 49-34.
Sophomore point guard Kade Davidson led Berryville (19-12) with 16 points, while junior guard Landon Chester added 12.
Morrilton sophomore forward Riley Wade scored a game-high 29 points.
