Expectations high for Highlanders soccer

Eureka Springs soccer coach Earl Hyatt believes the Highlanders boys team is in for a good season.
“I think we’re going back to state, for sure,” Hyatt said Thursday as the Highlanders prepare to open the season Monday at Berryville.
“Our boys are looking extremely good this year,” Hyatt said. “They’ve got some good speed up on the front end, got defenders back there. We’ll probably have more numbers than we’ve ever had. We’re fairly deep.”
The Highlanders finished 7-7 last season, losing to Conway St. Joseph in the first round of the Class 3A State Tournament. Hyatt said the team has looked solid in preseason practice and he’s eager to see how his players perform in a game setting.
“They’re all working together just really well,” Hyatt said. “We’ll see how they do in a game with a team that gives them serious pressure.”
Eureka Springs’ girls went 2-9 last season. Hyatt said he’s been pleased with the Lady Highlanders’ effort so far in practice.
“It’s not a huge team but a lot of determination,” he said. “We have a lot of new girls that really haven’t played before but they’re trying. They’re showing up and working.”
