Drenda A Higdon, 75, of Holiday Island, Arkansas passed away Saturday, February 1, 2020. Born November 4, 1944 in Fort Worth, Texas to James and Ann Higdon. Drenda grew up in Midland, Texas, graduated from Midland High School and Texas Women’s University, Denton, Texas. She retired from Denver public schools where she began her career as a teacher, then became a Vice Principal, Principal and Director of Elementary Education.
Following retirement Drenda relocated to Holiday Island, Arkansas where she was very active with the Holiday Island Fire Department and Auxiliary, St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Eureka Springs and St. Vincent DePaul in Berryville.
She is survived by her sister Nancy (Tim) Gaffney; brother Wes (Dianne) Higdon; nieces Jennifer (Stephen) Slaton and Deanna (Joe) Smith; nephews James Higdon, Davis and Landon Slaton, Blake Higdon, Cole and JD Smith; and best friend Mary Amundsen.
She is preceded in death by her parents.
Funeral service was 10:00 a.m., Thursday, February 13, 2020, at the St. Elizabeth Church (downtown), with Monsignor Bob Amundsen officiating.
