The Berryville High School wrestling team hosted the annual Bobcat Winter Blowout on Saturday, Jan. 18, bringing 12 teams to Bobcat Arena.

Berryville finished fifth in the team standings, and second among Class 4A teams. The Bobcats finished with 119 points, 26 behind third-place Shiloh Christian’s 145.

Those point totals are likely skewed, however, by the absence of one of Berryville’s top wrestlers.

Senior Colton Record, the defending Class 4A state champion in the 285-pound weight class, did not compete. Record is recovering from a sprained ankle but is expected to return to action in plenty of time to defend his title at the state tournament next month in Little Rock.

Record’s younger brother, Caleb, did compete on Saturday and took first place at 113 pounds. Caleb Record, who won the 106-pound state title as a freshman last season, won all four of his matches on Saturday by pin and was named the tournament’s top wrestler.

Junior Dominic Henry, another state champion for Berryville last season, took first place at 120 pounds. Henry won his semifinal match by pin and then was awarded a victory by decision in the final round.

Senior Brett Parsons, a two-time state runner-up, took second place at 145 pounds. Parsons won two matches by pin and one by major decision before losing in the final round to a wrestler from Class 6A Cabot.

Berryville’s Dominic Alvarado took third place at 106 pounds. Alvarado won two of his four matches, both by pin.

Another third-place finish for Berryville came from Carlos Escobar at 152 pounds. Escobar won two of his three matches, both by pin.

Berryville’s Haggai Katjang took third place at 182 pounds, bouncing back from a first-round loss to win four consecutive matches, all by pin.

Tun Oo of Berryville took fifth place at 160 pounds. Oo won a quarterfinal match by injury default.

Berryville’s Daniella Villegas at 126 pounds and Trevor Debour at 132 each took seventh place. Villegas won a decision over a Springdale Har-Ber wrestler, while Debour beat a Har-Ber wrestler by pin.

Berryville will travel to Little Rock on Saturday, Jan. 25, to compete in a tournament at Robinson High School.

Berryville junior Dominic Henry took first place in the 120-pound weight class at the Bobcat Winter Blowout on Saturday, Jan. 18. Henry won his semifinal match by pin and then was awarded a victory by decision in the final round.
