The Eureka Springs Highlanders played one of their best games of the season Tuesday night, defeating Haas Hall Academy of Fayetteville 56-48 at Highlander Arena.
On Thursday, Eureka Springs got more good news as the school was named to host the 2A West Regional Tournament next month.
“It’s a good week to be a Highlander,” coach Brian Rambo said.
The win over Haas Hall was the second in a row for Eureka Springs, which started the season 3-10.
“We played extremely well,” Rambo said. “We shot 52 percent, which is the highest percentage we’ve had all season.”
Sophomore Matthew Lester scored a game-high 26 points, includng five three-pointers in eight attempts.
“Matthew Lester played amazing,” Rambo said.
The Highlanders have been searching for more scoring to supplement Lester’s offense, and senior guard Jackson Cross provided it with 16 points. Eureka Springs made eight of its 17 three-point attempts.
“We shot it well, and we guarded really well,” Rambo said. “They’re huge. We knew the key to the game was boxing out, and they only had five offensive rebounds.”
