Going into Friday night’s road game at Green Forest’s Grim Gym, Berryville coach Daniel Cornelison said the Lady Bobcats wanted to get off to a quick start.

“We really wanted to try to get on them early and set the tone for the game,” Cornelison said.

Well, mission accomplished.

Berryville controlled the opening tap and scored the game’s first seven points before Green Forest moved the ball across the halfcourt line. The Lady Bobcats went on to a 56-19 victory over their cross-county rivals.

Senior guard Lexy Anderson led Berryville (12-3) with 21 points, including 12 in the first half. Junior point guard Lilli Compton had eight points, including a pair of three-pointers, in the first quarter and finished with 12. Junior guard Lauren Compton came off the bench to add a pair of three-pointers and scored eight points.

Junior guard Maddie Youngblood led Green Forest (0-15) with six points, while sophomore guard Samantha Delavin added five and senior forward Kendall Demeyer added four.

Senior forward Jordan Estepp scored the game’s first basket off an offensive rebound on the Lady Bobcats’ first possession, then Green Forest turned the ball over on a 10-second call.

On the inbounds play from under the Berryville basket, Anderson passed the ball to Estepp, who tapped it back to Anderson under the basket for an easy score.

The Lady Tigers committed another turnover, and Lilli Compton sank a three-pointer for a 7-0 Berryville lead.

Berryville led 20-8 at the end of the first quarter and 36-11 at halftime. The Lady Bobcats stretched their lead to 30 when Anderson scored off a long pass from Lilli Compton to make it 45-15 late in the third quarter.

“I thought Lexy had a really good game,” Cornelison said. “I thought Lauren Compton played well. She gave us a spark.”

Berryville’s next nine games will be against conference opponents in the rugged 4A-1, so Cornelison said it was important to play well.

“We can’t take nights off,” he said. “Our conference is coming up and it’s going to be brutal.”

Berryville will travel to Gentry on Friday. Green Forest will play at Clinton on Tuesday, Jan. 14.
