Winning Streak: Two weekend victories give Bobcats four in a row
By Scott Loftis
The season is still young, but the Berryville Bobcats are on a nice roll.
The Bobcats won a pair of games over the weekend, rallying from a 12-point deficit in the fourth quarter for a 62-61 victory at Cassville, Mo., on Friday, then defeating Aurora, Mo., 64-44 on Saturday in the Border War Classic at North Arkansas College in Harrison.
“Don’t jinx us,” Berryville coach Brent Compton said Monday of the Bobcats’ four-game winning streak. “I’m knocking on wood.”
In the victory over Cassville, Berryville trailed 53-44 after three quarters. But the Bobcats outscored Cassville 18-8 over the final eight minutes to pull off the comeback win.
Sophomore point guard Kade Davidson scored 10 of his 19 points in the fourth quarter, including a pair of throws with 30 seconds left after he was fouled at the rim with the Bobcats trailing 61-60.
After Davidson gave Berryville the lead, the Bobcats held on for the final 30 seconds to preserve the win.
Junior Landon Chester led Berryville with 22 points, including four of the Bobcats’ six three-pointers.
In the victory over Aurora on Saturday, sophomore forward Weston Teague scored 15 points to lead a balanced Berryville offense. Chester added 13 points and Davidson scored 10. Ten players scored for the Bobcats and six had at least five points.
Berryville led 35-21 at halftime and 55-28 after three quarters.
“We’ve been getting better every game,” Compton said. “Our kids are getting better.”
Compton said he is especially impressed by the Bobcats’ chemistry and unselfishness.
“Our kids are just as happy for their teammates as they are for themselves,” he said. “We have really super kids.”
Berryville will host Huntsville on Friday at Bobcat Arena.
