Helen Lee Garrett, on Thursday, December 12, 2019, at the blessed age of 99, passed peacefully into eternal glory and is now in heaven rejoicing with her beloved husband, Kirby Craig Garrett; her mother, Ethel Effie Duncan; her father, A.J. Duncan and her siblings, Loine Buell and Val Duncan along with countless other loved ones.

Helen was born into the Duncan family at Oak Grove, Arkansas on June 21, 1920. She attended school in Oak Grove, Fanning and graduated from Green Forest High School in 1939. She joined her best friend, Kirby, in marriage on February 24, 1940. Helen and Kirby shared 59 beautiful years together and had two daughters, who brought purpose and meaning to their lives.

Helen worked in various capacities while she and Kirby raised their daughters, including Seitz Mercantile, Green Forest Dry Goods, and Bell and Williams Supermarket. She was active in Fanning Church for a number of years and later in life in the Blue Eye Baptist Church. No matter where she worshipped on Sunday, she “walked the walk” Monday through Sunday every week.

Helen is survived by:

• Two amazing daughters: Garilee Leonard, (husband Don – deceased); and Kreglyn Glee Ranthum and husband Lee, both of Green Forest, Arkansas;

• Four grandchildren and their spouses: Craig and Candy Kesner, Green Forest, Arkansas; Danita and Charlie Hill, Overland Park, Kansas; Ronell Lambert, (husband Bill – deceased), Little Rock, Arkansas; and Rod and Rhonda Harden, Nashville, Tennessee

• Five great grandchildren and their spouses: Curtis Dale and Jessica Kesner, Springfield, Missouri; Christopher Craig Kesner and Jerika Baker, Republic, Missouri; Scott Garrett-Wyman and Taylor Hill, Overland Park, Kansas; Clayton Lambert and Melissa Brown, Little Rock, Arkansas; and Sarah Jane and Matthew Abbott, Aurora, Colorado.

• And five great-great grandchildren: Dylan Kesner, (Curtis and Jessica Kesner); Christopher Roy Kesner and Caroline Kesner (Christopher Kesner and Jerika Baker); and Emerson Hill and Sullivan Hill, (Scott and Taylor Hill).

And Her sister Wilma Champlin, of Los Angeles, California

Helen Lee Garrett exemplified many of the qualities of Proverbs 31: 10-31, and her laughter and spirit will be missed by those who loved and cherished her. She shared many gifts and her earthly presence will be felt for generations to come.

The family wishes to express our grateful thanks to those who stayed with her or attended to her during her last days on this earth for their care and love. You have become our family.

Visitation will be 1:00 pm until 2:00 pm Friday, December 20, 2019, at First Baptist Church in Blue Eye with the service to follow starting at 2:00 pm with Brother Jerry Jackson officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in her honor be sent to the New Home Cemetery Fund, in care of Nelson’s Funeral Home – 222 East Madison Avenue, Berryville, Arkansas 72616.
