Turnovers cost Eureka Springs in loss to Shiloh Christian
By Scott Loftis
For three quarters Wednesday night, the Eureka Springs Lady Highlanders had things their way.
In the fourth quarter, however, the ball was literally in Shiloh Christian’s court.
The Lady Saints rallied for a 37-33 victory in the Queens of the Court tournament in Green Forest, outscoring Eureka Springs 17-2 down the stretch.
“They played a 1-3-1 zone most of the game, then in the fourth quarter they started pressing us,” Eureka Springs coach Ryan Sanchez said.
With their most experienced ballhandler sidelined by injury, Sanchez said, the Lady Highlanders struggled to move the ball past halfcourt in the fourth quarter.
“Their athleticism, top to bottom, just got to us,” he said.
Eureka Springs senior Shelby Little had an outstanding game for the Lady Highlanders. Little made all seven of her shots from the floor and seven of nine free throws to finish with 21 points and seven rebounds.
Sophomore Olivia Cross made a pair of three-pointers and finished with eight points for Eureka Springs (2-5).
Sanchez said the Lady Highlanders shot 50 percent from the floor as a team but committed 24 turnovers.
“We outshot them,” he said. “They just got a lot more shots because we turned the ball over so much.”
Eureka Springs played Green Forest on Thursday night and will have another game in the tournament Saturday.
