BV students participate in FFA Day

Students in Berryville’s Future Farmers of America club attended the Arkansas-Oklahoma FFA Day on Sept. 25 in Fort Smith.
“It was basically just a practice for the spring time,” junior FFA president Emily Broseus said. “We’ll have our actual career development events that we compete in to go to district and then state.”
The district competition will be in Russellville in March and will determine whether Berryville students advance to the state competition.
In Fort Smith, Berryville placed eighth in the floriculture category, which had 18 competing teams, 16th among 27 teams in dairy, and 25th of 45 teams in livestock.
Broseus said their livestock team only has three people, though most teams have four.
“I’ve been trying to recruit people, but it’s not the easiest,” junior FFA reporter Grace Weege said.
Both Broseus and Weege were on the floriculture team.
“We’ve got stuff to work on, but it was pretty good for our first try,” Weege said. “Because I’ve never been in floriculture before, and I didn’t do great, but I didn’t do as bad as I thought.”
