Lady Bobcats bounce back with win
By Scott Loftis
It didn’t take long for the Berryville Lady Bobcats to shake off their first loss of the season.
The Lady Bobcats traveled to Prairie Grove on Thursday, Sept. 26, and collected a three-set victory over the Lady Tigers. Berryville won 25-14, 25-17, 25-18.
The victory came just two days after the Lady Bobcats lost at home to Farmington in three sets. Coach Kristin Whetham said she was pleased with how her team responded.
“We fine-tuned some of the things we needed to work on and went over to Prairie Grove and took care of business,” Whetham said.
With a deep, talented roster, Whetham said the Lady Bobcats must focus on themselves and their own play rather than worrying about a particular opponent.
“It’s been us hurting ourselves, not the other team doing something to beat us,” she said. “If we do what we are supposed to do, then we should win.”
Senior Taylor Swofford had 14 kills in the victory over Prairie Grove, with senior Jordan Estepp and junior Lauren Compton adding 10 each and senior Lexy Anderson chipping in four. Compton served five aces, while seniors Kate Powell and Kelsey Smith had three each. Swofford, Estepp and Anderson each had one block. Powell had 18 assists with junior Abby Thurman adding 10. Smith had nine digs.
Berryville (6-1, 5-1 4A Northwest) played a nonconference match at Green Forest on Monday night.
