Linemen stand out in Tigers’ scrimmage
By Scott Loftis
Green Forest coach Bobby Bishop has had good things to say about the Tigers’ skill players during preseason practice.
After last Friday’s intrasquad scrimmage, it was time for the linemen to get some love.
“We had some kids that kind of caught our eye,” Bishop said Monday. “We had some nice performances from some of our linemen.”
In particular, Bishop singled out sophomores Rodolfo Mendoza and Dalton Randolph.
“Those guys kind of stood out,” he said.
Senior Hayden Alvard and sophomore Alberto Martinez made big plays on offense as well, Bishop said.
Overall, Bishop said he was pleased with the scrimmage, which was moved to the Tigers’ practice field to avoid damaging the game field after heavy rains.
“I felt like it was productive for all three groups (including the seventh-grade and junior high teams),” he said. “We felt like we got some things accomplished. We liked what we saw. We had pretty good effort and intensity and the kids had fun.”
Green Forest will play a scrimmage Tuesday night at home against Huntsville. The Tigers will open the regular season on Sept. 6, traveling to Yellville-Summit.
