Holiday Island Garden Club visits Long Creek Herbs
The Holiday Island Garden Club recently visited Long Creek Herbs, deep in the woods near Blue Eye, Mo.
Jim Long gave a personal tour of his beautiful herb garden, with instruction on the different varieties of herbs, growing techniques and their uses. The Garden Club members were then treated to ice-cold lemonade and home-made lemon thyme blueberry muffins — with edible flowers — on the porch overlooking the garden. Long Creek Herbs business manager and author Josh Young helped the members select dried herbs and books from their gift shop.
The garden club members enjoyed listening to personal stories of Long’s travels and his favorite places to eat.
Long is the author of more than two dozen books on herbs, gardening and historical subjects. He is a frequent lecturer at flower and garden shows, herb conferences, State Master Gardener conferences and professional organizations throughout the United States. He has appeared on numerous television programs and is a regular columnist for The Heirloom Gardener, Missouri Gardening and The Ozarks Mountaineer magazines. He also has a syndicated newspaper column, “Ozarks Gardening.”
