Lake Leatherwood swim beach reopened to the public

After weeks of being closed over E. coli levels, Lake Leatherwood City Park’s swim beach is back in business.

Tom Jones, senior environmental specialist with the Arkansas Department of Health, sent an email on Thursday, July 18, saying the swim beach has completed two consecutive samples showing a safe level of E. coli in the water. Samples must come in below 127 E. coli, Jones said, and the last sample at Lake Leatherwood came in at 18.7 E. coli on July 11.

The City of Beaver Beach in Carroll County is still closed. In the email, Jones writes that the Beaver swim beach measured 48 E. coli on its last test on July 10. That means the beach needs one more safe sample, Jones said, and it will reopen, too.
