Leroy A. Dorsey, 83, of Eureka Springs, went to be with Jesus his Lord on July 9, 2019. He was born on August 18, 1935, in Sharpsburg, Maryland, to Paul and Ida (Wolff) Dorsey. He is preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Omer Dorsey; and two sisters, Barbara Dorsey and Ida Dorsey, all of Sharpsburg, Maryland.
Lee served in the Air Force from 1953 to 1961. He joined the Air Force at 18 years of age and was an air traffic controller. After his stent in the Air Force, he went back to work at Kinney Shoes as a sales manager, district manager, and executive director of pricing in Manhattan. He worked for Footlocker, Susie Casuals, and Kid’s Footlocker, all subsidiaries of Woolworth Stores and Kenney Shoes. He was employed by Kinney Shoes for 50 years. He worked in the Woolworth Building at 233 Broadway in New York City. It was from 1913 to 1930 the tallest building in America with very beautiful architecture.
Lee was active in Goodwill, Easter Seals, and the Cosmopolitan Club. He was a very hard worker, organized, and detailed in everything that he did.
Dorsey retired and moved to Beaver Lake south of Eureka Springs, Arkansas and has lived there with his wife, Shirley, for the past 15 years. Lee has served on the Board of Directors of Lone Star Bible Church for the past several years. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Lone Star Bible Church.
He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Shirley May Zerbe Dorsey whom he married March 30, 1958; three children, Debbie Lynn Dorsey, David Lee Dorsey and his wife Joan, Dana Lor Dorsey Armitage, all of New Jersey; Debbie’s two sons, Robert Carbone and Michael Carbone; David’s two daughters, Alexandra Dorsey and Erika Dorsey; Dana’s three daughters, Alicia Jordan and her husband Scott, Cathy Armitage and fiancé Brian McKnight, and Rachael Armitage. Alicia and Scott have two children, Connor Jordan and Sean Jordan. That’s a total of seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Lee is also survived by one brother, Robert Dorsey of Jacksonville, Arkansas.
A memorial service will be held at 1:30 PM Sunday, July 14, 2019, at Lone Star Bible Church located at 3807 Highway 23 South, Eureka Springs, AR. Rev. Don E. Carter will be officiating.
