Traffic on U.S. Highway 62 between Berryville and Eureka Springs was blocked by an accident shortly after 8 a.m. Wednesday near Blue Bird Hill.
The Carroll County Sheriff’s Office, the Arkansas State Police and local firefighters all responded to the accident, but few details were available by Thursday morning.
CCSO Chief Deputy Major Jerry Williams said the accident involved individuals trapped in a vehicle that caught fire. Williams said the individuals were extricated from the vehicle but he did not have a report on their conditions. He referred further questions to the Arkansas State Police.
A call to State Police Troop L headquarters in Springdale was referred to public information officer Bill Sadler in Little Rock. Sadler said no report was available and noted that department policy allows troopers three duty days to file an initial report with their supervisor, unless the crash involves a fatality.
Several bystanders reported seeing a helicopter land to airlift the individuals involved in the accident.
Also on Wednesday morning, a Carroll County dump truck was involved in a single-vehicle accident on Highway 21 South. Traffic was re-routed to Highway 103.
Carroll County Judge Sam Barr said the driver of the truck was airlifted to a Springfield hospital after suffering a cut to his head, but was released after it was determined he had not suffered a concussion. Barr said no police report was available as of Thursday morning.
