The Green Forest Lady Tigers delivered an emphatic opening statement Thursday morning in the first round of the Class 3A girls state soccer tournament in Harrison.
Green Forest (9-6) scored six goals in the second half and shut out Cave City (3-12) for a 7-0 victory.
“They played really well,” Green Forest coach Ashley Wilson said of her team, who advanced to face Episcopal Collegiate of Little Rock in a quarterfinal game at 10 a.m. Friday.
Sophomore Evelyn Lopez scored a pair of goals for the Lady Tigers, while freshmen Samantha Uvieta, Samantha Delavin, Myndy Zamora, Kimberly Lozano and Blanca Galindo added one goal apiece.
“I think this is one of our best games where we controlled the ball and passed it well,” Wilson said. “It was just a matter of making our shots. In the second half, they started going in for us.”
As the top seed from the 3A-West, Green Forest looks ready to make a deep run in the tournament.
“We definitely can,” Wilson said. “I believe we can.”
