The Arkansas State Highway Commission has approved bids for the extension of Freeman Avenue in Berryville.

Mayor Tim McKinney said the project will be a 0.3-mile extension of Freeman Avenue to connect the roads to the Berryville Soccer Complex to Highway 62.

“We haven’t heard when the starting date for the project will be,” he said, “or what the length of the project will be.”

He said he is hoping it will be completed before or around the start of the new school year.

McKinney said the road extension will provide traffic relief for the intersection of Freeman Avenue and Highway 62.

“It will give people more options,” he said, “so that they don’t have to turn around and go back the same way if traffic is congested.”

McKinney said the new extension will ease traffic during athletic events for the Berryville School District.

“It also opens up a lot of land on the west side for development,” he said, “which hopefully we will see in the near future.”
