Billy Stidham has joined the staff of Carroll County Newspapers as a summer intern.

Stidham began work on Monday, May 20, and will continue for eight weeks. He will be working for both the Carroll County News and the Lovely County Citizen.

Stidham, 24, is a senior at Lyon College in Batesville, studying English with a concentration in journalism.

“We’re glad to have Billy with us for the summer,” said Scott Loftis, managing editor for Carroll County Newspapers. “We were impressed with his passion for journalism during our selection process, and he’s already been a help to us. Our goal is for him to gain some experience that will help him pursue a career in journalism.”

Stidham is a Batesville native and has previously had work published in the Batesville Daily Guard.

Stidham also gained experience as a freelance writer and content marketer for London-based Wordify.

Stidham hopes to make a full-time living as a writer, and enjoys writing of all kinds: poetry, fiction and of course journalism.

“I enjoy getting to talk to the movers and shakers living in my community. I’m always fascinated by the talented and kind-hearted individuals working to improve the lives of others.” Stidham said. “This internship is a dream for me, I’m excited to learn a lot from talented and experienced reporters.”

Stidham’s internship was arranged through a partnership between Carroll County Newspapers and the Arkansas Newspaper Foundation.
