BV's Powell qualifies for state in shot put

Berryville junior Kate Powell qualified for the state track meet with her performance in the shot put at Monday’s 4A-1 district track meet.

Powell’s throw of 32 feet placed third — just seven inches behind the winning throw — and qualified her to compete in the Class 4A state meet on Tuesday, April 30, in Batesville.

“That’s not even her farthest throw,” Berryville coach Andrew Killingsworth said. “She did a really great job.”

Berryville junior Cecilia Doss just missed qualifying for the state meet. Doss competed in three events at the district meet, highlighted by a fourth-place finish in the triple jump.

Doss set a school record with a jump of 33 feet, 10.5 inches.

“She was just one place out of contending for state,” Killingsworth said.

On the boys’ side, Berryville’s highest finishes came from senior Eduardo Rangel in the 3,200-meter run, and the 4X400-meter relay team, both taking sixth place.
