Jones' 4 goals spark Lady Bobcats
By Scott Loftis
It’s fair to say that senior Maryn Jones was involved in the Berryville Lady Bobcats’ offense Tuesday night. In fact, it’s probably unfair to leave it at that.
Jones scored four goals and assisted on another as the Lady Bobcats cruised to a 7-0 victory.
Berryville (9-9, 3-4 4A-West) led 5-0 at halftime.
“We did a pretty good job of keeping the ball on our end of the field,” Berryville coach Aaron Hall said. “We’ve struggled to get where we want to, but the girls did a nice job of coming out and doing what they’re supposed to do.”
Junior Natalia Hernandez added two goals for Berryville and junior exchange student Alicia Mendoza also scored for the Lady Bobcats.
Seniors Karleigh Giles and Vicky Villatoro each had two assists.
The Lady Bobcats will finish the regular season at home Friday night against a Dardanelle team that Hall describes as “a mirror image of us.”
The Lady Sand Lizards reached the Class 4A state semifinals last season before losing to Central Arkansas Christian — the same team that beat Berryville in the state championship game.
Although neither Berryville nor Dardanelle have a winning record in conference play, Hall points out the parity among most of the teams in the league.
“They have four losses,” he said of Dardanelle, “and just like us, three of those losses have been by one goal.”
