Gordon leads Tigers to win over Marshall
Sophomore Reiley Gordonís big day at the plate led Green Forest to an 18-3 four-inning victory over visiting Marshall on Wednesday.
Gordon had three hits, drove in four runs and scored three times for the Tigers, who trailed 3-2 going into the bottom of the second inning but outscored Marshall 16-0 the rest of the way.
Gordon had RBI singles in the first and second innings, then added a two-run single in the fourth as the Tigers (5-13, 3-9 3A-1 East) scored seven runs.
Freshman Barrett Phillips added two hits for the Tigers. He drove in two runs and scored three. Junior Jackson Tibbetts drove in two runs, and senior Dustin Pimentel, junior Micah Hutchison and freshman Dalton Randolph each scored twice for Green Forest.
The Tigers were credited with 16 stolen bases, including four each by Gordon and junior Jacob McMahan, three by Phillips and two by Tibbets.
Phillips earned the pitching victory, allowing three runs (none earned) on three hits and two walks while striking out four.
The victory over Marshall followed a doubleheader loss on Tuesday to visiting Clinton, which beat the Tigers 9-2 and 19-2.
In the first game, Gordon had three hits while DeMeyer added two and Tibbets drove in both Green Forest runs in the bottom of the seventh inning. Pimentel and Randolph had the Tigersí only hits in the second game, with Pimentel scoring on a groundout by Phillips in the bottom of the third. McMahan scored Green Forestís other run on a groundout by DeMeyer in the second.
