Lady Tigers pull off game-winning rally
Wednesday’s game between Green Forest and visiting Marshall was important for seeding in next week’s district tournament.
“Both of us wanted to win it for seeding purposes,” Green Forest coach Ryan Whetham said.
After a back-and-forth battle, the Lady Tigers pulled out the 8-7 victory with a pair of runs in the bottom of the seventh inning.
Sophomore Whitney Andreski hit an inside-the-park home run to tie the score and sophomore Katie Underdown delivered the game-winning hit for Green Forest.
“It was a pretty exciting game,” Whetham said.
Senior Ashley Farrar had a pair of hits for Green Forest, including an inside-the-park home run. Juniors Kiara Taylor and Kendall DeMeyer also had two hits for the Lady Tigers.
Whetham said DeMeyer and senior Emily Aday made run-saving catches to help keep Green Forest close, while Underdown had a solid game at catcher.
Gracie Youngblood was the winning pitcher, striking out seven.
Green Forest (5-9, 4-8 3A-1 East) was scheduled to play Berryville on Friday but that game was canceled because of a scheduling conflict.
The Lady Tigers will play Mountain View on Monday in the first round of the district tournament at Clinton.
