Penalty kick lifts Highlanders to victory

Penalty kicks made the difference for the Eureka Springs Highlanders as they won at Lincoln on Wednesday.

The teams were tied at 1-1 at the end of regulation time, with senior Griffin Taylor scoring Eureka Springs’ goal off an assist from junior Joel Harris.

Taylor scored again on a penalty kick, as did senior Kayden Eckman and sophomore Gustavo Tapia.

Sophomore goaltender Preston Hyatt, who had 18 saves for the Highlanders during regulation, stopped all three of Lincoln’s penalty kicks to clinch the victory for Eureka Springs (5-4, 4-2 3A West).

The Highlanders hosted Green Forest on Thursday. They’ll be at home against Decatur on Monday, then travel to Lead Hill on Thursday, April 25.


Lincoln 3, Eureka Springs 1

Lincoln defeated Eureka Springs despite 11 saves by Lady Highlanders senior goalkeeper Makenzie Meyer.

Junior Grayson Ertel scored the lone goal for Eureka Springs.

The Lady Highlanders (1-7, 1-3 3A West) hosted Green Forest on Thursday and will finish the regular season on Monday at home against Decatur.
