Offensive outburst: Bobcats use balanced attack to outslug Pioneers

The Berryville Bobcats showed off their offensive attack last Thursday at Gentry, outslugging the Pioneers for a 16-12 conference victory.
Sophomores Jarrett Stringer and Jayce Walker had a combined eight runs batted in for the Bobcats, with Stringer collecting five RBI and Walker adding three. Stringer also scored three runs for the Bobcats.
Senior Ethan Gregory also had a big day at the plate with a team-high three hits and scored two runs.
Junior Kyle Kennett and senior Rusty Colbert each had two hits, two runs scored and two RBI for Berryville, and junior Austin Franklin had two hits, drove in a run and scored three times.
In all, Berryville finished with 16 hits.
Trailing 9-7, Berryville broke the game open with seven runs in the top of the fifth inning.
Kennett’s two-run single with one out scored Austin Woods and Franklin to tie the score at 9-9. Colbert followed with an RBI double to score Walker and give Berryville the lead before Gregory singled to load the bases. Stringer promptly unloaded them with a triple to center field for a 13-9 advantage. Stringer scored one out later to make it 14-9.
Gentry scored three runs in the bottom of the fifth to get within two before Berryville added two more runs in the seventh to seal the victory.
Junior Tyler Payne pitched the first four innings for Berryville, allowing nine runs (six earned) on eight hits while striking out four batters and walking four. Stringer pitched the final three innings, allowing four runs (two earned) on four hits. He struck out eight batters and walked three.
Berryville (8-6, 2-4 4A-1) hosted Lincoln on Monday. The Bobcats will host Shiloh Christian on Tuesday and Pea Ridge on Thursday before closing out the regular season at home Friday against Green Forest.
