Lady Bobcats rally to beat Valley Springs

The Berryville softball team suffered an 11-1 conference loss at Farmington on Monday, but the Lady Bobcats bounced back the next day with an 8-5 comeback victory at Valley Springs.

Junior Kate Powell provided the lone offensive highlight in the loss at Farmington when she hit a home run to center field in the top of the fifth inning. Powell had two of the Lady Bobcats’ four hits.

Against Valley Springs, Berryville trailed 5-0 after four innings and 5-4 with one out in the top of the seventh before its winning rally.

Senior Taylor Kelley got things started with a double to center field, then scored on a single by sophomore Lora Grace Hill to tie the score at 5-5.

Hill moved to third on a double by Powell, then both runners scored on a double by senior Maleah Bryant. Senior Hayley Rivett followed with an RBI single that scored Bryant for an 8-5 Berryville lead.

Valley Springs had runners on second and third in the bottom of the seventh before Berryville got the final out to preserve the victory.

Junior Eve Linz drove in three runs for Berryville, while Hill, Bryant, Rivett and Anna Caroline Stone each had two hits. Bryant scored two runs and drove in two.

Berryville (10-8, 3-2 4A-1) played at Gentry on Thursday. The Lady Bobcats will host Hollister, Mo., on Monday.
