BV library teams up with Northark to host healthy living program
Was one of your New Year’s goals to get fit and stay fit? It’s not too late to take that step. The Berryville Public Library has teamed up with North Arkansas College (NAC) Carroll County Center to offer a free program entitled Healthy Living & Introduction to Zumba. The program will be held from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, April 13, at NAC at 804 W. Freeman St. in Berryville.
Sensible eating and regular physical activity can help us feel our best, avoid too much weight gain and possibly prevent diseases later in life. We all benefit from making smart food choices and promoting active lifestyles. Join Mary Wise, Family and Consumer Science (FACS) Specialist with the University of Arkansas Extension office, as she provides an explanation of basic nutrition terms and discusses common misuse of these terms. Through a brief description of how metabolism changes over the life cycle and the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) recommendations for appropriate weight for age and gender, participants will have a better understanding of how to take charge of their health. In addition, weight-loss programs and “fad diets” versus science-based diets will be discussed.
The second half of this class, taught by Irma Aguinaga, will introduce participants to Zumba, a fast-paced exercise class. Zumba can be done by people of any age at any moment. Aside from being a great exercise, it’s fun! With routines that stem from Latin-American influences like the Salsa, Merengue, Cumbia, Reggaeton and Samba, participants will find themselves sweating away the calories.
Participants should wear workout clothes and come prepared to sweat during this class.
According to Linda Tamayo, operations coordinator for the North Arkansas College Carroll County Center branch, “We are very proud of our partnership with The Berryville Public Library to offer these Community Education classes for personal enrichment to the entire Carroll County community.”
