Billy Roy Pharis, of Berryville, Arkansas was born October 28, 1918 in Carroll, Nebraska, son of James Irving and Lillie Lee (Rowlett) Pharis. He departed this life on Tuesday, April 2, 2019 in Berryville, Arkansas at the age of 100.
Billy served in World War II as a Private First-Class in Company C 203D Engineer Combat Battalion from July 9, 1943 until being honorably discharged on February 12, 1946. He was in the battle of Normandy, Northern France, Ardennes Rhineland and Central Europe. Billy received many decorations such as World War II Victory Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, Theater Ribbon with one Silver Service Star and one Bronze Arrowhead.
He married the love of his life, Lois Ella Wright on June 15, 1940 and were married for 70 years until her death in July 2010. He is also preceded in death by his parents, seven brothers; Kenneth, Everett, Russell, Vernon, Herbert, Harold and an infant brother, four sisters; Jewel Carter, Clara Mae Horn, and twin infant sisters.
Billy is survived by one brother Ed Pharis and wife Joyce of Berryville, Arkansas, plus several nieces, nephews and a host of other loving relatives.
Visitation will be from 12:00 p.m. until 1:00 p.m. Monday, April 8, 2019 at the Charles M. Nelson Memorial Chapel in Berryville. Funeral service will follow at 1:00 p.m. with Brother Larry Montgomery officiating. Interment will follow the service at the Berryville Cemetery.
