Maurice Edwin Heathcock, 91. Died at home after a lengthy illness. March 12. Born March 15, 1927 in Jonesboro, Arkansas to Edwin Prentis and LoraBell Woodard Heathcock.
Graduated in 1945 from Nettleton High School. Drafted into the United States Army in 1945. Served Army Air Defense, tour of duty Japan 1945 to 1947. Graduated 1950 from Arkansas State University. Taught and coached the 1949-50 championship basketball team for Nettleton High School.
Married Jonnetafay Tatum August 26, 1950. Moved to Rowland Heights California in 1959. Retired 1988. Begin traveling with his wife before settling in Holiday Island Arkansas in 1990.
Maurice was preceded in death by his wife Johnnie, sisters Margie Louise Wyatt and Nancy Heathcock.
He is survived by three sons. Gary (Elizabeth), Steve (LeeAnn); both of Greenville, Tennessee and Earl(Vicky) of Centerton, Arkansas. Brother Marion (Carol) Heathcock, sisters Pat Lefleur, Betty Chaney, Mary Belle Sexton, and Nina Stephens. Six grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
Maurice’s interests were genealogy, travel, baseball, dominos, hiking. He was on a traveling softball team into his 70s.
