Hill's three-pointer caps Lady Leopards' comeback to win regional title

Sophomore guard Alex Hill scored 21 points, including eight in the fourth quarter as the Alpena Lady Leopards rallied to beat Jasper 54-49 in the championship game of the 1A-1 Regional Tournament at County Line High School in Branch.

Jasper led 47-44 after a 10-0 run in the fourth quarter, but Hill led Alpena back. She tied the game with a basket at the 1:53 mark, then hit a clutch three-pointer with 13 seconds left for a 52-49 Alpena lead.

Senior guard Ariel Fowler added nine points, junior forward Kayleigh Armer scored seven and sophomore forward Amelya Cook had seven for Alpena, which led 27-24 at halftime and 39-35 after three quarters.

The Lady Leopards (30-4) won their 13th consecutive game and earned a top seed for this week’s Class 1A state tournament. Alpena will play Maynard (22-15) in a first-round game at 4 p.m. Tuesday at Izard County Consolidated High School in Brockwell.
