Lady Leopards punch ticket for state tournament

The Alpena Lady Leopards just keep on rolling. The Lady Leopards are headed to the Class 1A State Tournament after beating Oark 69-33 in the first round of the 1A-1 Regional Tournament on Wednesday at County Line High School in Branch.

Sophomore guard Alex Hill scored 16 points to lead four players in double figures for Alpena (28-4). Sophomore forward Amelya Cook added 14 points, while senior forward Maddy Milburn and junior forward Kayleigh Armer had 10 points apiece.

Alpena led 41-22 at halftime and 62-28 after three quarters.

The Lady Leopards will play a regional semifinal game at 7 p.m. Friday against the winner of Thursday night’s first-round game between County Line and Kingston. The Class 1A State Tournament begins Tuesday, Feb. 26 at Izard County Consolidated High School in Brockwell.

County Line 70, Alpena 49

County Line jumped out to a 31-18 halftime lead and went on to beat Alpena, ending the Leopards’ season.

Senior Jonathan Stone had 21 points for Alpena, which finished 19-14. Senior Corey Holsted added 15 points for the Leopards.
